Support young driver road safety
Young drivers are significantly over represented in serious accident statistics in Australia – and around the world.
In fact road deaths exceed all other causes combined.
The graph below* shows that while under direct supervision, Learner drivers have a very good safety record.
The problem to be solved, is that there is a dramatic shift when they ‘go solo’.
Immediately after Learners transition to their ‘P’s’, accident numbers increase exponentially.
While 208 young drivers died on our roads last year, a further *several thousand sustained injuries requiring hospitalisation.
(*a more difficult number to quantify due to variations in reporting)
Consider this. The societal cost of death and injury requiring hospitalisation in Australia, exceeds a staggering $30 billion each year.
Young drivers (17-25) account for approximately 20% of that figure.
The Mobil Safety Rewards mission is to assist in reducing this dramatic increase in accidents and to encourage and reward safer driving habits.
We do this by using smart-phone technology to extend supervision, feedback and mentoring, combined with an evolving ‘ecosystem’.
This ecosystem is comprised of useful young driver education and road safety resources to assist you and your teen driver(s) through the critical years.
We also add value via a Rewards program and discounts from participating suppliers.

We believe that the key ingredient missing beyond the Learner driver phase is ongoing supervision, mentoring, feedback and a gentle nudge here and there. Our mission is to fulfil that function using artificial intelligence, backed by data that references behaviour more likely to result in an accident.
We underpin this effort with supporting resources and a rewards program.
A road safety solution that removes cost-barriers
Driver behaviour monitoring is common in today’s commercial fleet driver programs. These typically come as an add-on module, requiring in-car technology. The cost is beyond what would be acceptable to this demographic use-case. The Mobi app technology removes that barrier.
The Mobi Safety Rewards App
Mobi uses smart-phone sensors to monitor key aspects of safe driving. Actual speed against posted limits, acceleration and braking, turning and lane changing, distraction / phone handling, time of day, weather and accident detection. A unique driver profile is created and reflected as a safety score and backed up by feedback, coaching and reporting for the driver and supervisors.
The short story
Initially, Mobi is intended for Parents and Care-givers of soon-to-be, or current Learner drivers. The app will follow and assist the driver through their Learner and Provisional journey, providing feed back and tips.
It and our supporting resources, are offered as a low-cost monthly subscription.
